For lithium primary, lithium polymer, and damaged or swollen lithium-ion batteries, we charge $5 per pound
For lithium primary, lithium polymer, and damaged or swollen lithium-ion batteries, we charge $5 per pound. The most common lithium primary batteries are AED batteries. All these types of batteries must be treated as hazardous material for shipping and recycling purposes. The photo shows examples of swollen lithium-ion batteries.
We recycle alkaline batteries for free for our commercial customers (with a few conditions)
We recycle alkaline batteries for free for our commercial customers if you buy bulk alkaline batteries from us OR if you have a healthy mix of batteries to recycle (i.e. also recycle lead batteries, such as from UPSs. If you regularly recycle a bucket at a time and you don’t buy bulk alkalines from us, we charge $0.50 per pound. We do that because that is pretty much what we have to pay the recycler. Bottom line, we are passing the costs through, giving commercial customers the benefit of our wholesale recycling rate.
Preparing rechargeable batteries for recycling by covering terminals with clear tape
Using clear tape, tape the terminals of all lithium batteries of any voltage, and nickel rechargeable batteries over 9V. One exception is that 9V alkaline batteries do not have to be taped. We reserve the right to charge a $0.50 per unit taping fee if you don’t properly tape terminals. Trust us, it’s easiest for the terminals to be taped before the batteries go into the recycling bucket. Please help us.
